DHAKA, Nov 25, 2023 (BSS) – An organization named 'Step to Humanity Bangladesh' Coastal-19 has been launched with a vow to work for the socio-economic development of the backward people of the country, including the coastal districts.

Canada-based journalist and educationist Delwar Jahid presided over a virtual meeting on Saturday night. He was recently appointed executive director of the international charity Step to Humanity Association.

The new organisation named 'Step to Humanity Bangladesh' will conduct poverty alleviation, education and skill development training, women and child development, sanitation and healthcare activities to improve the living standard of the disadvantaged people of 19 coastal districts and the country, she said. In addition, this service organization will play a key role in strategic planning to address the challenges faced by the poor people of Bangladesh, especially those affected by climate change.

Eminent sociologist and former director of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) Dr Kamrul Hasan, former director Dr Anwar Zahid, executive director of Odhikar Foundation Ali Akbar Masum, former director of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development Nasima Akhter, senior journalist Khairul Ahsan Manik (UNB), senior journalist Md Jahangir Alam, among others, spoke on the occasion. Sajjad Hossain (BSS), journalist Shamsul Habib (Jugantor) and Esrar Zahid and Kora Hasan Evana.

At the meeting, a national executive committee was formed for three years. Committee Chairman: Dr. Kamrul Hasan, Vice-Chairman: Khairul Ahsan Manik and Ali Akbar Masum, General Secretary: Md. Akhtaruzzaman. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Joint General Secretary: Shamsul Habib, Finance Secretary: M Ashraful Islam. Firoz Miah, Member: Sonia Rahman and Kora Hasan Evana.

Executive Director of the organization Dr. Anwar Zahid presented the article of memorandum and it was passed unanimously.
